The beautiful canal house museum Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis consists of a gorgeous garden and four rooms on the first floor of the house. Each room is decorated in the typical style of the period.
The main house has now become an office space and the coach house in the back has been converted into a lovely living space. The library and the blue room are two of the most interesting spaces in the house. The blue room is home to several antique musical instruments including historic fortepianos. Friendly docents are on hand to tell visitors about the history of the house and its residents.
The gardens at Museum Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis are absolutely stunning! Symmetrical beds with exuberant flowers and herbs, a long pond with a feathery fountain and arches of cascading roses are just a few of its features. It is definitely one of the most beautiful gardens in Amsterdam, don’t miss it in spring and summer! You can visit the gardens as part of a walk through the museum or check them out during the Open Tuinen Dagen.
The museum regularly hosts special events and concerts. Check their agenda to see what’s on.
TIP: If you plan to visit more than 3-4 museums in one year, the Museumkaart is a good investment. It grants free or discounted entrance to this museum and about 400 more across the Netherlands.
