An oh-so-welcome addition to De Wallen, Quartier Putain serves up perfect coffee and a healthy dose of cool. Pick a tune on the jukebox to go along with your java.
This terrific coffeehouse is nestled in between the red lights and the oldest structure in Amsterdam, the Oude Kerk.
Somehow due to the location we’d expect the interior of the space to be a bit edgy and seedy, but they have done a terrific job refurbishing the old building and turning it into a bright and happy space. The owner is actually hip-hop record label Top Notch, whose signed acts include De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig (my fave) and The Opposites.
The ground floor contains the coffee bar and an awesome old Seeburg jukebox. Tokens are provided and customers are encouraged to select their favorite tunes. The second floor has seating and also serves as a space for book signings, cozy music performances and art exhibits. Head up there to enjoy your coffee along with great views of the Oude Kerk, or sit outside on a nice day to soak up the ambiance.
We love the cheeky name, the great music on the jukebox and the excellent coffee. Stop in day or night, Quartier Putain is open until 22:00.
Take a walk through De Wallen to see all the wonderful new shops, galleries and cafes that are popping up all around. You will surely be pleasantly surprised.
