AMSTERDAM ROEST

Roest is a unique place in Amsterdam Oost where you can go for a drink, a bite to eat, or enjoy one of their many festivals and special events.

AMSTERDAM ROEST • A RUSTY PLACE TO CHILL OUT & ENJOY LIFE

Have you checked out Amsterdam Roest? It’s an awesome place to hang out on a nice sunny day. Their edgy, industrial city beach is a relaxed spot to spend the afternoon with a group of friends and a few drinks. Pick a picnic table and chill out! On the summer weekends they often do brunch, BBQs and other special eats and drinks.

In addition to the cool outdoor space, Roest has a variety of indoor spaces as well. The inside of the cafe is full of fascinating character with the rusting old machinery and parts contrasting with the velveteen sofas and fancy lamps. You’ll also find some interesting sculptures and art works here and there. High ceilings pull it all together. Next door in the Loods space, Roest holds all kinds of events like markets, exhibits, parties and festivals. In this space they also have DJs, other performances and even films. All in all there is lots to see and do at Roest!

Amsterdam Roest is housed in an old factory that was used to build steam engines for the VOC ships. You can still see some of the old equipment. It lends a raw, industrial aspect to the space.

Be sure to check their agenda to find out what is happening. Don’t miss the AVONDMARKT, Vrijland Festival and more!

We really love Roest, it is one of our favorite Amsterdam locations. Perhaps you’ve noticed that we like the funky, relaxed spots on the edges of the busy city like Hannekes Boom, pllek and the Tolhuistuin. Roest perfectly combines the old rusting industrial atmosphere with great programming and events. Don’t miss it!

TIP: Roest can be a little difficult to find if it is your first time there. We recommend heading northeast on Czar Peterstraat if coming by bike (or tram 10) from the center of Amsterdam. Before you get to the train tracks, go left and follow the parking lots around until you reach Roest. The “street address” is not exactly correct as Roest is not located on Czar Peterstraat but is situated on the water by the VOC Kade. If you can’t find it, just ask someone! Or just follow the cool kids.
