12 BEST PIZZAS IN AMSTERDAM

Who doesn’t enjoy a tasty, thin-crust pizza hot out of a wood-burning oven? Luckily Amsterdam has quite a few fantastic pizzerias. Have you visited them all yet?

Ready for some pizza? Let’s get right to it. Here are our top 12 favorite pizzas in Amsterdam in no particular order 🙂

La Perla

On a charming avenue in the even more charming Jordaan is La Perla, a delicious pizzeria with locations on both sides of the street. We enjoy their tasty pizza, and place it at the top of the deliciousness-list. They import their ingredients directly from Italy. The Calabrese di Spilinga with spicy ‘Nduja salame is absolutely fantastic, as is the Bianca with prosciutto and arugula. The friendly staff will take your order with a smile. Sit in the window of the to-go venue and people watch while you munch away, or sit across the street at the restaurant and enjoy a glass of wine or beer with your pizza.

Fuoco Vivo

This clean, bright restaurant in Oud West is staffed by Italian waiters who deliver delicious pizzas hot from the oven. One of our favorite pizzerias in Amsterdam, Fuoco Vivo uses natural sourdough yeast to make their dough and many of their ingredients are organic. The menu is simple with just a selection of pizzas, three antipasti options and three dessert options. We’ve tasted the Margherita, the Ricotta and Diavola. All are super scrumptious! Several Italians have told us that this is their favorite pizzeria in Amsterdam and we have to agree it is very tasty. We’ve been told to try the pastas too…

MangiAncora

With delicious pizza straight out of the wood oven and friendly and sassy service, MangiAncora is sure to delight any pizza lover.Another favorite with the Italian expats in the city. Eat in or take out at this favorite spot in de Pijp. We really enjoyed the truffle pizza, so nice we went back twice! Be sure to also visit their sister restaurants: MangiAmore and MangiAssai.

De Italiaan is a cozy two-floor restaurant with a lovely terrace under the trees in a quiet neighborhood just outside the center of Amsterdam. Their menu includes fresh salads, homemade pastas, and tasty pizzas from their woodburning oven. This is a charming place to bring a date or your parents for a relaxed Sunday dinner.

Da Portare Via

With four locations in Amsterdam, Da Portare Via has all the cool neighborhoods covered. Oost, Centrum, De Wallen, and De Pijp are all home to an outpost of this pioneer of quality Amsterdam pizzerias. And the pizza from these friendly restaurants with their checkered tablecloths is quite tasty. Try their truffle pizza – tartufi con coppa di parma – it’s the best! The Leliegracht location is very popular on warm summer evenings with boats pulling up alongside on the canal to pick up a pizza. It really is the perfect boat food, but don’t forget the wine as well!

Pazzi

Pazzi serves up tasty fresh pizza from their wood-fired ovens in Oud West and in the Jordaan . They call it “slow food” after the traditional food movement, but they get your order to you pretty quickly anyway! Eat here at the cozy tables or take-away. We liked the Calabrese with spicy salami and the Quatro Fromaggi.

De Pizzakamer

A wood-burning oven pizza joint opened a few years back on a quiet corner in de Pijp, De Pizzakamer. And now there is a second location in the west. We tried several of their pizzas, the 4 Formaggi, the Diavola, the Capricciosa and the Carciofi e stracchino and found each to be quite tasty. It seems others agree as the place is extremely packed on weekend evenings, and is busy on weekdays as well.

il Pecorino

If you happen to be in Noord luckily there is excellent pizza there as well. The original il Pecorino was located on a charming small square, but now has moved to two larger locations: one on Purmerplein and the other along the IJ at Wilhelmina Dok. The friendly owner Mick serves a variety of pizzas and calzones from the wood burning oven. They also have pasta and other deliciousness on the menu. Be sure to save room for dessert!

De Pizzabakkers

De Pizzabakkers now has four locations to serve you fresh, hot pizzas. Visit their locations on Haarlemmerdijk, on Overtoom, de Pijp or in the Plantage neighborhood. All four locations are nearby wonderful parks, so take your pizza to go and eat al fresco. When dining in, we like the bright cafe on Haarlemmerdijk the best. Cozy tables are placed close together so you can easily eavesdrop on your neighbors for some juicy gossip. Service is friendly and quick. Oh and the pizza is delicious as well!

Sotto Pizza

A stylish restaurant on the Amstelveenseweg with a big wood-burning oven, Sotto gets rave reviews from visitors about their tasty pizzas. We enjoyed their pizza as well, and the cool interior is a great place to meet up with friends and chow down on their large pizzas with generous toppings. Sotto recently opened a second location on Roelof Hartstraat too!

Pizza on a boat!

Perhaps the best place to eat pizza is on your boat on Amsterdam’s lovely waterways. For a unique experience pick up a freshly made pizza with your boat from a pizzeria located along the canal. It’s just so cool to pick up pizza from a window next to the water. This probably isn’t the best pizza in Amsterdam but it is the most fun!
