BEST SANDWICHES IN AMSTERDAM

It’s lunchtime, and to the Dutch that means broodjes! Plain cheese on bread is fine but we usually like a sandwich with a bit more pizzazz. Here are 20 of our favorites.

BEST SANDWICHES IN AMSTERDAM

Broodje Bert

If it’s a big, generous sandwich you are looking for, head to Broodje Bert. This tiny lunchroom on the Singel canal offers a variety of sandwiches but many people rave about the lamb burger. This is basically a salad with 3-4 lamb meatballs and a big bread roll. Super yummy! You can’t go wrong here. Sit out on the terrace on a sunny day, take your broodje to go or squeeze inside when it’s cold out.

De Wasserette

Pop in to De Wasserette in De Pijp for lunch and try one of their hearty open-faced sandwiches on white or brown sourdough bread. We’ve sampled quite a few like the pumpkin with parmigiano and the stracchino cheese with grilled artichokes. All creative, fresh and delicious!

Small World Catering

On a little side street just off the Haarlemmerdijk you’ll find Small World Catering, a popular little deli with a terrific range of internationally inspired dishes. But their sandwiches are truly out of this world! You will love any of their warm sandwiches. Our favorites include the pastrami and the spicy salami. Most exciting of all is you can actually order your lunch and have it delivered to your office.

Cafe Harlem

Located on the busy Haarlemmerstraat shopping street, Cafe Harlem is a cool local bar with a nice streetside terrace on a sunny day. Their lunch menu features some very tasty sandwiches, like the Harlem Club sandwich or the Rufus Thomas with spicy jalapeno chicken.

Kingfisher Cafe

Reliably cool day or night, Kingfisher Cafe is a relaxed bar that is hip kitsch in De Pijp. We are always pleased with the tasty food in this shiny red cafe. The tandoori chicken pita sandwich is a standout of deliciousness, and the service is friendly. Try the appeltaartje here, it’s the biggest slice we’ve found!

Gartine

Everything is delicious at Gartine, including their sandwiches. The seasonal menu changes regularly, but we’ve always enjoyed the open faced sandwich delights we’ve tasted here. They only use the best local and regional products, including veggies from their own moestuin. Save room for a slice of one of their tarts for dessert. This small cafe is popular so lunch reservations are necessary.

De Laatste Kruimel

This cute little cafe in the heart of the center is a terrific place to stop in and grab a snack. There’s a long list of sandwiches to choose from, both room temp and warmed up. The sandwiches are all made fresh to order on your choice of white or whole grain bread. Try the goat cheese or the mackrel! And save room for one of their lovely desserts. Be warned, this place is tiny so if you can’t get a seat just grab your broodje to go and sit and enjoy canalside!

Deli concept Stach Food is quickly spreading across Amsterdam and we couldn’t be happier. Their sandwiches are super yummy but we are addicted to the carpaccio with truffle mayo. Prepared in just a few moments, you can grab the sandwich to go and eat it canalside or in one of Amsterdam’s lovely parks! Don’t forget a Belvoir soda or coffee to go with it.

Don’t miss the best tosti in Amsterdam at Caulils. You can find this cheesy delight at both Caulils Deli on Haarlemmerstraat and Caulils at the Foodhallen.
