The charming hand written menu lists lots of options for breakfast or brunch until noon. A typical Amsterdam cafe, Koffiehuis “De Hoek” is a wonderful spot to sit and watch the morning traffic go by. We love that Vinnies opens weekdays at 7:30 AM! That’s highly unusual in sleepy Amsterdam. Vinnies Deli is a cute cafe with two locations in the center that serve healthy and absolutely delicious breakfast and lunch. Sit and linger a while or just pop in for coffee or a quick breakfast before heading to Centraal Station to start a voyage to faraway lands. They now have a location in Amsterdam Zuid as well.

The Lobby at Hotel V

The clubby elegant surroundings at The Lobby at Hotel V at Nesplein is a great spot for breakfast any day of the week. We imagine it would be a great choice for visitors and local alike, and provides an ideal location for a romantic brunch for two or a business breakfast. For breakfast try the eggs benedict smothered in creamy Hollandaise sauce or the wentelteefjes which they call “French Toast Amsterdam Style”. The flammkuchen is very popular as well.

Are you looking for a place to have brunch in Amsterdam? Try Greenwoods, a cozy tea room and breakfast spot with two locations in the center. This spot is super popular with the fashionable folks so be prepared to wait for a seat especially on weekends.

Yoghurt Barn

Weekdays Yoghurt Barn opens at 8AM and weekends at 10, so let’s get out of bed and have a healthy and satisfying breakfast or brunch! (guess what? there’s also a location in Central Station now for when you are on the go!) The specials change daily, but you’ll typically find yogurt topped with a variety of fresh fruits, homemade granola, nuts and seeds. Add a fresh juice or a smoothie and you’re ready to face the day. They serve Bocca coffee and teas from Tea Bar, too. Yoghurt Barn also offers a full brunch and high tea, they recommend booking these in advance.

If you want to grab breakfast before doing an art marathon at Museumplein, hit up the Bagels & Beans at Van Baerlestraat. They open at “7:59AM Monday-Friday” and “around 8:30AM” on Saturday and Sunday. They definitely have a good sense of humor with their opening time information! We are kind of bagel snobs but we do enjoy the food at this chain. The bagels are big and hearty and come topped with pretty much anything you could desire: cream cheese, hummus, bacon, avocado, tomato, prosciutto, banana, capers, hagelslag, tuna salad … but please don’t mix all of those on one bagel! The “alles gemengd” juice is deee-licious! (check their website for more locations in Amsterdam)

One of the original concept shops in the city, Beter en Leuk is a healthy cafe with some lovely stuff for sale in addition to art and sometimes yoga classes. On the weekend they have additional specials including waffles with fresh fruit and oatmeal topped with fruit, hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds. And once a month on Sunday they serve a special vegan brunch.

They call themselves an American coffee bar, and Bedford Stuyvesant is a little slice of cool Brooklyn style in Amsterdam Oost.
