A typical Amsterdam cafe, Koffiehuis “De Hoek” is a wonderful spot to sit and watch the morning traffic go by. We love that Vinnies opens weekdays at 7:30 AM! That’s highly unusual in sleepy Amsterdam. Vinnies Deli is a cute cafe with two locations in the center that serve healthy and absolutely delicious breakfast and lunch. Sit and linger a while or just pop in for coffee or a quick breakfast before heading to Centraal Station to start a voyage to faraway lands. They now have a location in Amsterdam Zuid as well.

The Lobby at Hotel V

The clubby elegant surroundings at The Lobby at Hotel V at Nesplein is a great spot for breakfast any day of the week. We imagine it would be a great choice for visitors and local alike, and provides an ideal location for a romantic brunch for two or a business breakfast. For breakfast try the eggs benedict smothered in creamy Hollandaise sauce or the wentelteefjes which they call “French Toast Amsterdam Style”. The flammkuchen is very popular as well.

Are you looking for a place to have brunch in Amsterdam? Try Greenwoods, a cozy tea room and breakfast spot with two locations in the center. They serve organic eggs in a variety of styles, including scrambled and poached, and offer the option of soy milk for your coffee. Greenwoods is also one of the best spots to get a full English breakfast in Amsterdam. Open from 9:30 in the morning to around 17-18:00 in the afternoon, Greenwoods serves their full menu all day long.

If you’re not from the Netherlands you may not know that pancakes, or pannenkoeken, are a common Dutch food but are not usually eaten for breakfast. However, at Pancakes! you can get these doughy delights all day long. They have the American style fluffy ones and the thinner Dutch version, as well as French clafoutis and Turkish mücver. But their creative toppings and add-ins take it all to a new level. Try the Dutch pancake with smoked salmon and guacamole or top yours with nuts, banana and chocolate sauce. Wow! We like the corn fritters, yum! Portions are big so be sure to arrive hungry. These Melbourne transplants serve delicious brunch every day until 4PM except Tuesday.

One of the best brunches in Amsterdam! And you’ll eat well while doing good. Almost everything is made from scratch at this lovely cafe and 100% of Dignita’s profits go towards supporting Not For Sale. Best of all – brunch all day! If you have a sweet tooth go for the pancakes. Their location in Zuid is near Vondelpark and they also have a beautiful cafe on the east side in the Hoftuin.

Housed in a lovely old theater, Coffee & Coconuts is the new breakfast hotspot in town. The scrambled eggs with feta and olives on toast is the favorite breakfast item on the menu, but there are plenty of other options. The coffee is great and they also serve wine and beer if you happen to fancy that first thing in the morning. This spot is super popular with the fashionable folks so be prepared to wait for a seat especially on weekends.

Yoghurt Barn

Weekdays Yoghurt Barn opens at 8AM and weekends at 10, so let’s get out of bed and have a healthy and satisfying breakfast or brunch! (guess what? there’s also a location in Central Station now for when you are on the go!) The specials change daily, but you’ll typically find yogurt topped with a variety of fresh fruits, homemade granola, nuts and seeds. Add a fresh juice or a smoothie and you’re ready to face the day. They serve Bocca coffee and teas from Tea Bar, too. Yoghurt Barn also offers a full brunch and high tea, they recommend booking these in advance.

Bagels & Beans

If you want to grab breakfast before doing an art marathon at Museumplein, hit up the Bagels & Beans at Van Baerlestraat. They open at “7:59AM Monday-Friday” and “around 8:30AM” on Saturday and Sunday. They definitely have a good sense of humor with their opening time information! We are kind of bagel snobs but we do enjoy the food at this chain. The bagels are big and hearty and come topped with pretty much anything you could desire: cream cheese, hummus, bacon, avocado, tomato, prosciutto, banana, capers, hagelslag, tuna salad … but please don’t mix all of those on one bagel! The “alles gemengd” juice is deee-licious! (check their website for more locations in Amsterdam)

Theatercafé Mozaïek in Amsterdam West is known as the best place to get a full Turkish brunch in Amsterdam. The generous meal includes an egg cooked as you prefer, and many small plates with fruits, cheeses, meats, fresh breads and our favorite – bal kaymak! It’s €13,50 per person and available only on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 15:00. Bring a huge appetite!

One of the original concept shops in the city, Beter en Leuk is a healthy cafe with some lovely stuff for sale in addition to art and sometimes yoga classes. Drop in one morning for a seasonal superfood smoothie, fresh juice or cheesy baked eggs. They have lots of interesting and vegan and vegetarian options. On the weekend they have additional specials including waffles with fresh fruit and oatmeal topped with fruit, hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds. And once a month on Sunday they serve a special vegan brunch.

If you’re a coffee or tea lover looking for a light breakfast in Oost, then Coffee Bru is the one for you! Stop into this cute shop for an expertly brewed coffee as well as fresh pastries and yogurt with muesli. Coffee Bru also serves and sells their own brand of tea called Monkey Chief. It is one of the nicest coffee shops in Amsterdam with friendly owners and a beautiful bright seating area with a wall of green plants.

Toward the east of Amsterdam you will find many stately facades along the River Amstel. De Ysbreeker is in one of those lovely buildings. Yum!

They call themselves an American coffee bar, and Bedford Stuyvesant is a little slice of cool Brooklyn style in Amsterdam Oost. In addition to perfectly crafted coffee drinks, Bed-Stuy makes fresh juices and smoothies, and has light breakfast options like toast with jam and yogurt with muesli. Parents like the kiddie corner with games for the tots. We love the hanging chair and lots of green plants.
