BROUWERIJ DE PRAEL • A PEARL IN THE CENTER OF AMSTERDAM
Brouwerij De Prael opened in 2002 and is located right in the heart of Amsterdam off Oudezijds Voorburgwal. Visit their tasting room or take a tour of the brewery.
This brewery makes several tasty beers, and used to have a policy of naming their brews after famous Amsterdam singers. One of their most popular beers is the “Johnny” pils named after the local crooner Johnny Jordaan. It is a delightful pilsner with a hint of hoppy bitterness. Or try Nick en Simon, a special IPA named after the pop duo. Our friends have enjoyed the Willeke blond triple and the Mary triple as well. You might not see the names on the bottles for much longer, the brewery is in the process of phasing them out, but the beer is just as tasty!
Reserve a tour of the brewery and have a tasting (or 4) in the proeflokaal. De Prael is a must-stop for beer lovers interested in tasting local beers.
Relax in their tasting room at Oudezijds Armsteeg 26 by pulling up a seat at one of the many tables, or perhaps in the comfy armchairs upstairs. Service is fun and friendly. Or sit at the bar where you can see photos of the famous Dutch singers adorning their namesake bar tap. De Prael also serves food including typical bar snacks and hearty meals. Don’t miss the ossenworst!
De Prael’s tasting room is open most days (closed Mondays) from noon to midnight, but check the website for the most current opening hours.
Before or after your visit to De Prael take a walk through the RED LIGHT DISTRICT to see all the wonderful new shops, galleries and cafes that are popping up all around. You will surely be pleasantly surprised.
