The epitome of a cozy neighborhood Italian, Cantinetta is sure to charm you with delicious comfort food and lovely wines, all at reasonable prices.I’m sorry to say that it took me far too long to make it to Cantinetta for the first time. I had passed by this cute restaurant in Amsterdam West so many times it’s impossible to count. I had recommended it to friends who came back with happy tummies, but I had never made it there myself until last week.
It was worth the wait. We spent a wonderful winter evening staying warm inside with red wine and pasta while outside was blustery and cold.
The service was extremely friendly and attentive, which can be such a rarity. We had a series of fascinating chats with one of the owners, Claudia, and heard the lovely story behind the restaurant. Hopefully the wine did not cloud our memories and we have the story right. Claudia and Deb met while Deb was visiting Amsterdam just for one day. Love at first sight perhaps, they stayed in touch until Deb was able to move to the Netherlands. They then opened their dream restaurant about two years ago.
Now back to the food. We shared a variety of pastas and well as the antipasto platter. The cured meats and fresh mozzarella were outstanding, as well as the homemade bread with rosemary. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the meatballs were delicious. We washed it all down with several bottles of wine, topped off by the decadent budino and finally some limoncello. A perfect meal.
Cantinetta will definitely be at the top of our list for a cozy meal with friends or a romantic date location. You can also pop in before dinner for a seat at the bar, a glass of wine and a quick snack!
Be sure to make reservations in advance as the restaurant is small and popular. If you’d like to have a special dinner with all your friends and family, Cantinetta will be happy to accommodate you. Give them a call!
