You may know Chef Julius Jaspers from television’s Topchef and you may know “Happyhappyjoyjoy” as a song that Ren & Stimpy sing on television. Besides TV what do these two have in common?
HAPPYHAPPYJOYJOY • YOUR NEW FAVORITE PLACE FOR ASIAN BITES
Chef Jaspers has opened an Asian streetfood eatery called Happyhappyjoyjoy on Bilderdijkstraat. Good news for Oud West! And now with a second location in Oost as well.
We visited on opening night and got a taste of the menu and the ambiance. And we are delighted! The fishcakes were fabulous, the shrimp shao mai were moist and flavorful, the meatballs were juicy. And people love the bao!
We returned again to try more of the menu. I had read from a trusted source on Instagram that the pad thai was the best in Amsterdam, so we had to order it. A bit different than pad thai I have had in the past, but very tasty and a little spicy! My favorite was the Goi Bu’o’i salad, full of fresh flavors.
Open for lunch and dinner, Happyhappyjoyjoy is the place to get your Asian food fix. Small dishes to share is the dining concept, with special teas, beer and wine to wash it all down in style. The restaurant also serves a special brunch on the weekends.
The designers did a great job with the ambiance. Low lighting with a red cast, paper umbrellas decorating the ceiling and fun wallpaper makes dining here an experience. I really loved the back area the best with the metal street style wall with huge Chinese characters.
Happyhappyjoyjoy is super popular now, so dinner reservations are recommended. You can book a table as late as 10:30PM on the weekends, hooray for places that serve tasty food a bit later than the average.
If you don’t feel like leaving your house, you can also have Happyhappyjoyjoy delivered by Foodora.
See you soon at Happyhappyjoyjoy!
