A cozy cafe located under the art space De Appel, MOES serves seasonal, sustainable foods and drinks for lunch and dinner.
MOES ••• SEASONAL AND SUSTAINABLE
After viewing art at De Appel or visiting the nearby Scheepvaart Museum, stop by MOES for a drink and a nibble. The menu is full of seasonal, regional and delicious products.
Have a glass of sparkling hard cider or a wine from their extensive list and peruse the menu. If you are just craving a borrel bite, we recommend sampling the Schipholgans bitterballen. There is an interesting story about these special snacks. You see, airports around the world must find ways to control birds near their runways, as no one wants a flock of birds flying into their airplane engines at takeoff or landing. Unfortunately, that usually means killing the birds. Instead of having these Schiphol waterfowl just go to waste, some clever entrepreneurs have created delicious bitterballen with the meat, instead of the usual beef/veal. You can sample them in various places, thankfully one of these is MOES! So how do they taste? We think they are yummy!
The lunch and dinner menus are creative and delicious. For lunch choose from caesar salad with chicken, a sandwich on organic bread, or a hearty burger. Dinner includes main entrees such as cod confit with potatoes and vegetables, lamb with sweet potato and spring vegetables or risotto with mint and peas.
Every so often MOES holds a special event like a meal with Keuken van het Ongewenst Dier, a beer tasting with Brouwerij de 7 Deugden or a 3-course vegetarian dinner. Check their website to stay informed about these special dinners and events at MOES. We’ve been to a cider festival, farm dinner, community events and book signings all organized by this terrific restaurant! It’s a real gem!
Come check out the interesting interior space, and if it is sunny enjoy the secret hidden back deck. And be sure to try the Schipholgans bitterballen and yummy ciders! (oh and btw in case your Dutch isn’t so good: “moes” is pronounced something like the English word “moose” and is a fun play on appelmoes (applesauce) from De Appel upstairs and moestuin (kitchen garden) due to their use of regional ingredients!)
