Our Privacy Policy
The privacy of our visitors is important to us. Why? Because our privacy is important to us!
We understand that security of your personal information is important. Here is information on what types of data we receive and collect when you use and visit our site, and how we safeguard your information. Just so you know, we never sell your personal information to third parties, that’s totally uncool.
Log Files
As with most other websites, we collect and use the data contained in log files. The information in the log files include your IP (internet protocol) address, your ISP (internet service provider), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet Explorer or Chrome), the time you visited our site and which pages you visited throughout our site. This is collected through Google Analytics and is used to determine how we can tailor our content to better serve our visitors. What articles are viewed the most often? How did you find us… by clicking a link on another website or searching on Google? That sort of thing. It helps us to figure out what we are doing right or wrong and to improve our website and social media efforts.
Your Email Address
This is a free content site – unless we get lucky and sell something to you. (please buy something we are broke) We do not require any personal information from you. We do not sell any information from our site to any outside party, and who would want to buy it anyway I wonder. You can opt in to sign up for our email newsletter where we share our tips about Amsterdam on a regular basis. You will not receive spam from us, just our favorite tips. You can opt out of the email list (managed by MailChimp) at any time if you find us annoying. Or you can just not sign up at all, that is fine too!
Cookies
Yum cookies! Do you prefer chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin? In any case, here is some more information about how this website, and most websites in general, use cookies to make your browsing easier.
We use cookies to store information, such as if you have visited our site before in the last month. However this information is not personal, we cannot see who you are. Only that someone visited more than once. Or not.
We also use third party advertisements to support our site such as Google Adsense. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons (or bacons? yum.) when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites). This is managed through third-parties like Google, we have nothing to do with it and honestly we don’t have time to worry about your secrets, we have enough problems of our own.
You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites. This could include the inability to login to services or programs, such as logging into your email accounts. But it’s up to you!
We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. For example if you read an article about vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam on here, the next website you visit might show you an ad for a vegetarian restaurant. Yay for Google! That is just how things work nowadays and really has nothing to do with this website in particular, as I am sure you already know.

Thanks to those of you who took the time from your busy life to read this explanation, and we hope you are satisfied that we don’t want to steal your privacy. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about our use of cookies or email addresses or what our favorite flavor of macaron is in case you want to send us a nice gift from Poptasi. Doooooiee!
