Dine in a greenhouse at De Kas, a restaurant that focuses on vegetables. Restaurant De Kas is the perfect place for a special occasion as the surroundings are lovely and the food is fantastic.
Dinner and lunch are set menus, with options for vegetarians or those with food allergies. At De Kas, vegetables are the stars of the plate. In a typical dish you’ll find at least 3 vegetables prepared in various ways: roasted, grilled, pureed, raw, fried. Seasonal and local fish, meats and cheeses are also served. Be sure to try the local wine from Limburg, it’s surprisingly delicious as the Netherlands is not really known for wines.
Herbs, veggies and fruits used in the dishes are grown in the greenhouse and gardens surrounding the restaurants and also on their small farm in Beemster. The emphasis is on local suppliers and farmers.
Owner Gert Jan Hageman has been cooking since age 16, earned a Michelin star, travelled the world, took a few sabbaticals and decided to open Restaurant De Kas.
The greenhouses date back to 1926 and used to belong to the Amsterdam Municipal Nursery. They were to be demolished but Hageman purchased them for 1 guilder and turned them into this beautiful restaurant in Frankendael Park.
Come for lunch or dinner and sit inside the spacious restaurant or out in the gardens in the summertime. De Kas is the perfect for a special occasion such as Mother’s Day or an intimate birthday dinner. Be sure to leave time to take a leisurely walk through Frankendael Park before or after your meal.
