ROLLENDE KEUKENS 2018 – AWESOME AMSTERDAM

Rollende Keukens is the biggest food festival in Amsterdam. The fantastic food truck festival Rollende Keukens is back at Westerpark this year 2018 from May 9-13th.

Masses of mobile food purveyors set up their “rolling kitchens” making Westerpark into a large open-air restaurant complete with beer tents and live music. Every year this festival just gets bigger and better! However that also means crowds, so get there early.

If you have been to this festival in the past, you know that when the sun shines it can get VERY busy, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Plan accordingly and be prepared for possible crowds and long lines. We advise arriving early or going on the not so sunny days to avoid the crowds. Maybe bring a blanket so you can sit on the grass in the park instead of searching fruitlessly for a bench. And make a plan beforehand to meet up with your friends in a prominent place as sometimes the cell networks fail. Oops!

Crowd warnings aside, this festival of food and fun is fabulous! In previous years we sampled tacos, wine, flammkuchen, burgers, Korean fried chicken, wood-fired pizza, wild boar gyros, bao, fries, mojitos, Asian noodles, beer, gourmet hotdogs, smoked fish, and poffertjes. There was also an oyster bar, insect snacks and vegan ice cream. Something for everyone! There is sure to be even more deliciousness on offer this year.

The festival is open daily from 13:00 to 23:00.

Some of the kitchens only accept cash, so don’t forget to go to the bank first. This year the bars will only accept cards – no cash! Also be aware that you need to buy your reusable cup for €2-2.50. You get a clean one with each new drink. You can keep the cup or just return it at the end. But you don’t get your money back if you return them. Don’t want to keep it? Be a pal, and share it with a new friend if you are leaving. Or bring a RK cup from past years. They also come in handy as boat or picnic cups for the summertime!
