THE BEST ROOFTOP BARS IN AMSTERDAM
A view from the top is always fun. Here are some of the best rooftop locations in Amsterdam.
The DoubleTree SkyLounge is not your typical generic hotel bar as it happens to have one of the very best views in all of Amsterdam. Ride the elevator to the 11th floor and take in the panoramic views over the city and the IJ from either indoors or out.
The SkyLounge serves beer, wine, cocktails and other drinks as well as food ranging from small bites to full meals. You can get everything from “American” ice cream to caviar and oysters. The bar is open from 11am to after midnight, come check out the amazing views day or night. READ MORE>>
W Hotel Lounge
This chic rooftop lounge in Amsterdam can be found right in the city center near Dam Square. It may not be the highest but it is definitely one of the coolest, with great views and the super modern vibe that the W Hotel is known for. Check out the swimming pool on one of the outdoor decks! Twenty Third Bar
The Twenty Third Bar is the highest and one of the swankiest skybars in Amsterdam. Located on the 23rd floor of the hotel, the views are spectacular. Sip on champagne or a cocktail and nibble on oysters or other delicacies from the Michelin-starred Ciel Bleu restaurant next door. In its previous life, Canvas was the lunchroom for workers at De Volkskrant newspaper. The building is now the übercool Volkshotel and the rooftop lunchroom became a bar, restaurant and nightclub. Canvas regularly hosts DJs and other events so be sure to check out their website for the latest news. You’ll see they also have a rooftop sauna and hot tubs for guests only. If you want to drink with a view, hotel bars are the thing, especially in Amsterdam where there are not a lot of tall buildings in the historic city center. The Ramada Apollo hotel welcomes you to visit Floor 17, their rooftop terrace bar with excellent views of the city.
If lovely views and drinks are not enough to lure you out near Rembrandtpark, Floor 17 hosts Rooftop Movie Nights during the summertime! Come watch a film under the stars with a cocktail in hand! Bring a warm sweater or a blanket as it can get sometimes a little chilly. READ MORE>>
The former Shell office tower has been transformed into a stylish destination complete with penthouse restaurant and bar Madam, rotating restaurant Moon and a panoramic rooftop with views for days! And maybe most interesting of all, they have a crazy rooftop swing that is said to be the highest in Europe. Check out stunning views of Amsterdam for free by climbing the stairs to the top of Science Center NEMO. If your short climb made you hungry or thirsty, pop into the rooftop cafe and grab a bite to eat. (or just BYOB and sit on the steps) Just look at those beautiful views, it’s one of my favorite spots to look out over the water.
NEMO architect Renzo Piano envisioned a rooftop city plaza when he designed the building. The NEMO cafe and terrace stay open until 19:00 in the summer months. READ MORE>>
Located right in the center of the city but out of sight is Blue, a cafe located on top of the Kalvertoren Shopping Center. Stop in for brunch, lunch, drinks and snacks and take in the 360 degree views of the city. Enter through the shopping center and take the escalators and elevators up to the top.
Blue is only open until 18:30 most days (until 21:00 on Thursdays) but stop by for an early beverage or watch the sunset in the chilly winter months. READ MORE>>
If you want to enjoy a nice view over the city for free, hop over to the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam located near Centraal Station. There is a cafe on the top floor where you can enjoy a meal or beverage, or just go to the rooftop deck and look out over the city. It is even beautiful on a rainy day. READ MORE>>
