Head to Restaurant Supermercado for scrumptious Spanish-influenced food in a kitschy cute cafe in Oud-Zuid. It’s super delicious! [closed]
Upon entering Supermercado few little orange trees greet you with their bright happy fruits. Then you’ll likely notice the blue-green walls and the fun half shopping cart on the wall filled with wine bottles. Upcycled tin cans work as shiny hanging lamps. Supermercado is not only bright, cute and fun – the food is fantastic.
Stop by for lunch, dinner or just snacks and drinks. The menu has a Spanish influence with lots of chorizo, Spanish wines and even Spanish beer Mahou. To be perfectly honest, everything on the menu looked and sounded delicious! Having just returned from an awesome holiday eating our way through Sevilla, I wanted to order it all!
For lunch I choose the duck breast salad, which was a fresh and flavorful mix of lettuce, tomatoes, beets and sunflower seeds topped with smoky duck. The perfect dish to get you through the day without feeling sleepy from too much bread.
My charming companion ordered the bocadillo chorizo. It is a huge bread roll topped with roasted red peppers, rucola and salty spicy chorizo sausage. Yummy! The peppers had a deep and delicious flavor.
We plan to return for drinks and dinner as soon as possible. The merguez sausage with chimichurri sounds amazing as well as the summery squid salad, and they also have tapas plates to share. The food is Spanish-Mediterranean in style but they seem to bring in a bit of fusion from many cuisines.
As mentioned above, there are lots of beverage options at Supermercado including Spanish wines and beer, as well as sherry. At first we were a bit taken aback seeing that they charged a few cents for tap water. But the tap water is flavored with mint, cucumber or lemon – or a combination of the three – and is definitely worth this small amount.
In nice weather grab a seat outside on the small terrace and watch traffic passing on Amstelveenseweg. Restaurant Supermercado is open from 11:00 to 1AM, but bear in mind the kitchen closes at 22:30.
Drop in for lunch, drinks, snacks or dinner. ¡Muy delicioso!
