Tucked away in a leafy green corner of Flevopark lies a secret hidden garden where you can enjoy a few beers, taste genevers and enjoy a few snacks with peaceful views of trees and water.
‘T NIEUWE DIEP • A FAVORITE PLACE TO GET AWAY
‘t Nieuwe Diep distillery and tasting room is housed in a polder pump house dating from 1880. The building was renovated in 2009 and in 2010 opened as a distillery. The quaint house is surrounded by water, fruit trees and an herb garden and is hidden in the middle of the park.
When the weather is nice grab a seat at one of the tables outside overlooking the pond or gardens. Try one of their special beers or taste one of their lovely housemade genevers. ‘t Nieuwe Diep produces more than 100 different products, made as often as possible from organic ingredients. They have sweet liqueurs, fruit genevers flavored with fresh juices as well as young and aged genevers. We especially enjoyed the citroen genever, like an even tastier version of limoncello.
‘t Nieuwe Diep also serves wine, sodas, coffee and other drinks as well as a unique Basque apple cider that you can order by the bottle to share.
If you are feeling hungry, order one of their wonderful cheese or meat plates. The ossenworst from De Wit is smoky and delicious and the fenugreek spiked sheep’s cheese from Dikhoeve pairs perfectly with beer. And it’s no wonder because the sheep eat leftover grains from the brewing process of nearby Brouwerij ‘t IJ.
Distilleerderij ‘t Nieuwe Diep is familiar to those living in Oost but is still relatively unknown to the rest of the city’s residents and visitors. If you like a peaceful place away from the crowds come and check it out. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday 15:00 to 20:00 in spring and summer and until 18:00 in fall and winter. Check the website to be sure.
