Umaimon Amsterdam - yummy chicken ramen at Leidseplein

Oh I love ramen! Don’t you? Make your way to Umaimon at Amsterdam’s Leidseplein for a big warm bowl of yummy chicken ramen.

This ramen restaurant is located in the middle of Leidseplein which may make you think it’s a place to avoid, as the area is quite touristy. However if you love ramen, definitely check this out. It’s delicious!

Umaimon specializes in chicken ramen, and they have a wide variety of options.

On the recommendation of the lovely Amsterdam Foodie we tried the #1 which is a rich tonkotsu-like broth they call Noukou. It has both fried chicken slices as well as chicken meatballs. The broth is really rich and creamy and will satisfy your cravings. The noodles are perfectly chewy too. Their ramen noodles are imported from Hokkaido Japan. I really really liked the chicken meatballs!

On my second visit I accidentally ordered the #4, the shio ramen. This is a lighter broth than the tonkotsu-style I usually go for. I was very pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was. The broth was still very flavorful but not as rich and creamy as the noukou. I might have a new favorite, I like it better because it wasn’t as filling.

Umaimon is part of  a concept that started in Dusseldorf, and is now in Munich, Barcelona and Rotterdam. On the walls and other surfaces you’ll notice fun artwork by Takumi Ogata.

When you’re craving a nice warm bowl of salty goodness definitely stop by Umaimon. Another plus is that the restaurant is quite large so you’re sure to find a space for you and your buddies to slurp up some soup.

Don’t forget to pick up one of the stamp cards – after 10 you get a free bowl of ramen!
