Some people might think a vegan food is always healthy, rich in green vegetables and teeming with vitamins.
Well, this is not that type of food. This is hearty, crunchy, salty, deep fried food that will satisfy your cravings.
We dropped in to have dinner at Vegan Junk Food Bar a few weeks ago. Everything we tried was spicy, salty and tasty but definitely not healthy!
The Notorious Sumo vegan burger was huge and topped with all kinds of goodies. There is a double patty, melted cheddar style cheeze, fried onion ring, veggies, pickles and their special spicy VJFB sauce. To say it is huge is a bit of an understatement. There was no way we could bite into it!
The kapsalon fries, called the Loaded VJFB, is another really popular item on the menu. Have you tried kapsalon before? It’s a very typical Dutch fast food that consist of kebab meat over fries topped with sauces and melted cheese. The Vegan Junk Food Bar version is delicious and very filling. The fries are from Frites Uit Zuyd, and are topped with vegan shawarma, jalapeños, onions, and tasty VJFB sauces.
One of my favorite things on the menu was the sweet potato fries. They are not easy to prepare perfectly crispy, but Vegan Junk Food bar makes them perfectly crispy, and serves them with the choice of sauce. We went for the spicy sauce which was absolutely delicious.
The location at Marie Heinekenplein is more of a restaurant while the Staringplein shop is a small burger bar. They are also in the process of opening a spot in Oost as well. I’m sure more locations will open soon it is very popular! They have a street art vibe in the decor which is really cool.
Vegan Junk Food bar is a great place to go when you’re craving something salty and fried but don’t wish to have the typical meaty options.
