One of Amsterdam’s classic special occasion restaurants, Wilde Zwijnen is a terrific choice for a cozy date, birthday meal or catch up with your friends.
Wilde Zwijnen uses fresh seasonal ingredients to prepare dishes that are full of flavor. The atmosphere inside is rustic cozy, with exposed brick walls and rough wood tables. I love the handmade ceramic serving plates and the fresh green plants scattered throughout the space.
You can choose a three or four course chefs menu or go a la carte. The dishes are inspired by the Dutch kitchen and take advantage of the freshest fish and vegetables in season. Although the name of the restaurant means “wild boar” you’ll find fish, meat and even vegetarian dishes here. Everything is cooked in the open kitchen where you can watch the staff hard at work.
Wilde Zwijnen has long been a favorite restaurant in Amsterdam Oost so be sure to make a reservation in advance. They write your name on the table in white chalk for a fun personal touch.
WILDE ZWIJNEN EETBAR
If you are in the mood for small plates, make a reservation next door at Wilde Zwijnen Eetbar. The menu here is inspired by the French and Spanish kitchen and you’ll find interesting dishes that are perfect for sharing or order a few for yourself for a tasting menu. On a recent visit we tried a very tasty octopus and chorizo dish that paired perfectly with our bright red wine.
The two restaurants share a wall and are connected on the interior but have separate chefs and kitchens. The Eetbar has a fun black and white chevron tiled floor and you can choose to sit at a table or at the bar.
Both the restaurant and eetbar have delicious wines that pair well with the dishes. Ask your server for a recommendation.
